BABA YAGA: HOUSE OF SHADOWS (2025)

A remote and ancient forest in the Ural mountains is whispered about in local villages, where generations have warned children never to wander too close to the trees at dusk. Travelers speak in hushed tones of a crumbling house perched on impossibly slender legs, appearing only at night, and of a shadowy figure whose name is uttered like a curse. Strange disappearances among those who sought fortune or knowledge have given rise to fear and superstition, yet few truly believe until they witness a sign for themselves.

Elena, a determined journalist driven by her own family’s history, arrives from abroad to investigate the truth behind the vanishing locals and inexplicable phenomena surrounding the woods. She carries notes from her missing grandfather — himself an explorer who vanished years earlier — suggesting that the forest holds secrets far older than recorded history. Villagers refuse to speak directly, but their fearful glances and hurried warnings hint at legends that refuse to die.

Against the backdrop of gnarled trees and creeping fog, Elena’s research leads her deeper into the forest than anyone alive has dared to go. At the heart of the woods, she finds untouched ruins and cryptic symbols carved into ancient stones that seem to pulse with an eerie resonance. Suddenly, in the quiet twilight, the forest shifts — the trees whisper, the shadows deepen, and the ground seems alive. Before she can retreat, something unseen seizes her, pulling her toward the edge of nightmare.

Her disappearance sparks alarm in those who share her past, especially her estranged father, Mikhail — a former operative who left behind a life of violence and secrets years ago. Haunted by memories of his own father’s unexplained disappearance, he reluctantly returns to his homeland when Elena fails to send further reports. Old contacts, faded maps, and a stubborn belief that myths may contain truth guide him back toward the forest’s edge, where superstition and reality blur.

Inside the forest, Elena discovers the legendary House of Shadows, a hut with spindly, articulated legs that creaks and sways like a living creature. Surrounding it is a fence of bone-white stakes, eerie in their perfection and chilling in their origin. From within, a presence watches with knowing eyes as if the forest itself has a heartbeat. Terrifying whispers echo through the clearing, blending with half-remembered lullabies and the distant cries of those lost before her.

As Mikhail follows the trail of signs — broken branches, footprints that seem both human and something else — he begins to encounter inexplicable phenomena: time slipping, spectral figures drifting between trees, and echoes of laughter that promise both danger and revelation. Driven by love and regret, he resolves to face the darkness, to challenge a force that has feasted on fear for centuries, and to bring his daughter back from within the forest’s grasp. Every step draws him closer to the House of Shadows and the truth of what the forest protects — or what it devours.

In the final confrontation under an impossibly starless sky, Elena and Mikhail must stand together against the ancient witch known only as Baba Yaga, whose power transcends human understanding. The forest, alive with whispers and ghosts of forgotten souls, tests their courage and their bond. In a moment of clarity, they must choose between surrendering to fear and forging a new story from the shadows. When dawn finally breaks, the forest releases its hold — but whispers of what lurks beyond the trees linger in the breeze, a reminder that some legends never truly fade.
