The Santa Clause 4 begins several years after Scott Calvin has settled comfortably into his long-running role as Santa. The North Pole is thriving under modernized operations led by Scott, Carol, and their son Buddy, who has grown into a mischievous but gifted apprentice. As Christmas approaches, the Pole begins experiencing strange magical surges that cause toys to malfunction, reindeer to lose balance mid-flight practice, and the weather to shift unpredictably. Even Scott’s Santa magic flickers at unexpected moments, raising concern among the elves.
Chief Elf Curtis discovers that an ancient clause—long forgotten in the earliest Santa contracts—has been activated. The “Reindeer Constellation Clause” signals that the magic of Christmas is destabilizing because a new celestial cycle is beginning. According to legend, this cycle requires Santa to choose a “Star Bearer,” a successor or partner who can channel shared magic to prevent an imbalance. Scott is uneasy, believing this means the world is trying to replace him, while Carol urges him to consider that the North Pole might need evolving leadership.

Complicating matters, Scott’s daughter Lucy arrives for the holidays and senses the magical disruptions more deeply than anyone else. During a mysterious northern lights storm, she is pulled into a vision of a future where Christmas collapses under failing magic. Realizing she may play a crucial role, Lucy joins Buddy in investigating the origins of the clause. Together, they uncover that a forgotten branch of holiday guardians—spirits who once protected celestial magic—were sealed away centuries ago when humans stopped believing in them.
Their search accidentally releases one of these spirits, Astrid Frost, a guardian with the power to strengthen or drain holiday magic. At first she appears benevolent, offering to restore balance, but her true intention is to seize the Santa mantle herself and reshape Christmas into a rigid, rule-bound system without warmth or humanity. Scott confronts her but struggles as his powers weaken further.

In the final confrontation, Scott, Lucy, and Buddy unite to stop Astrid, combining Lucy’s emerging celestial abilities with Scott’s experience and Buddy’s inventive thinking. The battle reveals that Lucy—not Astrid—is the true Star Bearer chosen by the constellation. Scott fears she will be forced to replace him, but the clause allows a shared role instead of a succession.
The film ends with Scott remaining Santa while Lucy becomes the first Star Bearer, guiding the celestial magic that sustains Christmas. Together, they ensure the holiday’s future remains bright, blending tradition, family, and the evolving spirit of belief.
