Dracula Untold II begins years after Vlad the Impaler vanished into legend, living in the modern world under the name Luke Evans once hinted at in the original film’s ending. Trying to suppress his vampiric nature, Vlad wanders through crowded cities and forgotten ruins, avoiding attachments that might awaken the monster within him. His quiet existence shatters when an archaeological team in Eastern Europe accidentally releases an ancient enemy long thought buried—Mara, the First Vampire Queen, whose power rivals the creature that originally turned Vlad.
Mara awakens furious at a world that has forgotten her. Feeding on entire villages in secret, she grows stronger each night while calling her dormant followers. Vlad senses her return like a pull in his blood and realizes that he is partly responsible for her rise, as the curse that gave him strength also bound him to the ancient vampire lineage that Mara once ruled. Reluctantly, Vlad sets out to confront her before she plunges the world into irreversible darkness.

Along the way, Vlad encounters Elena, a historian specializing in medieval folklore. She recognizes him not as a myth but as the real Vlad Dracula and insists on helping him. Their uneasy alliance is strained by fear, as Elena sees both the hero and the monster in him. Vlad, haunted by memories of his wife Mirena, struggles with the guilt of centuries and fears that accepting Elena’s help will drag her into the same tragedy that consumed his past.
As Mara grows stronger, she unleashes vampire legions across Europe, turning cities into battlegrounds dripping with shadows and smoke. Unlike Vlad, she revels in chaos and sees humanity as livestock. She seeks to force Vlad to join her, believing his powers are the final key to resurrecting the original vampire god sealed beneath the Carpathian Mountains. Vlad refuses, but each confrontation weakens him, revealing the limits of his self-control and the dangers of the curse he carries.

Vlad and Elena discover an ancient ritual capable of severing the vampire lineage forever, but it requires a sacrifice from someone willingly bound to the curse. Vlad prepares to surrender his life, believing that ending Mara and the bloodline is the only way to redeem himself. Elena, however, argues that his humanity—though fragile—is what makes him capable of defeating Mara without destroying himself.
The final battle takes place in the ruins of an ancient fortress where Mara attempts the resurrection ritual. Vlad unleashes the full extent of his power, confronting both Mara and the dark legacy that created him. Instead of sacrificing himself, he breaks the ritual by channeling his remaining humanity into a final strike that destroys Mara’s essence and seals the bloodline’s corruption.
The film ends with Vlad surviving but forever changed, walking into a dawn he has not seen in centuries. Whether he is still vampire or something new remains uncertain, leaving the world—and Elena—watching him with cautious hope.
