Wrong Turn 9 picks up the story years after the last series of disappearances in the remote mountains of West Virginia, where rumors of mutant killers have faded but never truly disappeared. The film opens with a group of young filmmakers traveling into the region to shoot a documentary on local legends. Confident that the stories are exaggerated, they hike deep into the woods, unaware that a new generation of inbred killers has been raised in complete isolation. These killers, descendants of the original clan, have grown more brutal and more cunning, using the forest as a perfectly designed hunting ground.
As the group explores abandoned cabins and overgrown trails, strange signs begin to appear—freshly carved symbols on trees, traps reset with precision, and distant screams echoing through the valleys. At first they assume the locals are trying to scare them away, but their skepticism fades when one of their team members vanishes at night. The next morning, they find a trail of blood leading deeper into the forest. Panic sets in as they realize they are no longer documenting a legend but walking straight into its deadly truth.

The filmmakers attempt to escape, but every path seems to twist back toward danger. The mutated family stalks them relentlessly, using knowledge of the land to isolate and confuse their prey. The group’s leader, Emily, begins to suspect that someone among them may have drawn the killers out intentionally, as some of the traps seem designed not just to kill but to test reactions. Suspicion creates tension within the group, making survival even more difficult.
As night falls again, the survivors take shelter in an abandoned ranger station, discovering old files detailing past disappearances and attempts by authorities to cover up the truth. Emily pieces together that the new clan has been evolving, learning from their ancestors’ mistakes and adapting their tactics. The revelation brings both terror and determination, pushing her to take control and find a way out before the forest closes in completely.

The climax unfolds in a network of underground tunnels that serve as the clan’s home. Emily leads the remaining survivors through narrow passages filled with bones, makeshift cages, and remnants of earlier victims. The final battle is brutal and frantic, forcing her to confront the clan’s leader—a towering figure who is both human and monstrous. Using her wits rather than strength, she manages to escape, collapsing into daylight as the tunnels collapse behind her.
The film ends on an unsettling note. Emily is rescued by authorities, but when she tries to explain what happened, she realizes they already know more than they admit. As she is taken away, the camera pans back to the forest, where a pair of mutant eyes watches from the shadows, suggesting the nightmare is far from over and the paths remain as twisted as ever.
