“Tooth Fairy” is a 2010 family comedy film that mixes humor, fantasy, and heartwarming lessons about dreams and belief. The movie stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Derek Thompson, a tough and skeptical hockey player known for knocking out opponents’ teeth on the ice—earning him the nickname “The Tooth Fairy.” Derek is admired for his strength but criticized for his negative attitude, as he often discourages others from believing in dreams or magic. His cynicism reaches its peak when he tells a young fan that there’s no such thing as the Tooth Fairy, shattering the boy’s imagination and earning himself an unexpected punishment from the magical world.

One night, Derek is visited by a group of real tooth fairies who summon him to the fairy realm. There, he is put on trial for destroying belief in magic and is sentenced to serve time as an actual Tooth Fairy. Armed with a tiny pair of wings, a wand, and a pink tutu, Derek must carry out the duties of collecting children’s teeth while leaving money under their pillows. Humiliated and frustrated, he struggles to adapt to his new role, fumbling through comical situations as he learns to use his magical tools under the watchful eye of his fairy caseworker, Tracy, and the head fairy, Lily.
As Derek continues his punishment, he begins to see the world differently. His girlfriend Carly and her young daughter, Tess, remind him of the importance of imagination and hope. Through his misadventures, Derek slowly rediscovers his own childhood dreams that he had long buried under toughness and pride. The experience of being a Tooth Fairy teaches him humility, kindness, and the joy of believing in something greater than himself.

However, his transformation doesn’t come easily. Derek faces a series of challenges, from competing with Carly’s ex-boyfriend to balancing his hockey career while secretly doing his fairy duties at night. Along the way, he learns to care for others, helps his teammates believe in themselves, and even inspires Tess to pursue her dreams without fear.
By the end of the film, Derek completes his sentence as a Tooth Fairy but chooses to keep the lessons he has learned. His heart softens, his perspective changes, and he embraces the idea that belief and imagination can make life truly magical. “Tooth Fairy” is ultimately a lighthearted story about redemption, showing that even the toughest person can rediscover wonder when they learn to believe again.
